چکیده
• Inhabitants at the site of TMD (c. 500–1150) relied almost exclusively on pearl millet as a staple crop, though other cultigens were well established in region. Exclusive cultivation may be part pattern regional subsistence specialisation with roots Late Stone Age. Recent archaeobotanical analysis revealed that botanical remains from Tongo Maaré Diabal (Mali) are composed primarily (up to 85%). Contemporaneous West African sites (500–1200 Cal AD) usually display more diverse patterns, especially by end this period. Indeed, contemporary urban Sahel often comprise combined and diversified farming systems ( Pennisetum glaucum ), rice Oryza glaberrima sorghum Sorghum bicolor) , Echinochloa sp. fonio Digitatia exilis ). This article seeks explain near-exclusive focus Diabal’s agricultural economy millet, particularly regard site’s status settlement iron workers.

Overcoming Phosphorus Deficiency in West African Pearl Millet and Sorghum Production Systems: Promising Options for Crop Improvement
West Africa (WA) is among the most food insecure regions. Rapid human population growth and stagnating crop yields greatly contribute to this fact. Poor soil fertility, especially low plant available phosphorus (P) is constraining food production in the region. P-fertilizer use in WA is among the lowest in the world due to inaccessibility and high prices, often unaffordable to resource-poor sub...

Microorganisms Associated with Pearl Millet Cultivars at Various Malting Stages
Microbiological analysis of samples taken at various stages of malting pearl millet cultivars was investigated. The results indicated that total bacterial count, mould count, staphylococcal count, coliform count and yeast count ranged from 4.08 to 5.28 log10 CFU/g, 2.50 to 3.71, 1.78 to 4.20, 2.65 to 3.65, and 2.54 to 3.70, respectively. The predominant microorganism in unmalted grain was Bacil...
